Košice, March 9, 2021 – Styllex motorsport, the most successful Slovak rally team, returns to the tracks of the World Rally Championship series along with their driver Martin Koči after a 4 year break. The team’s programme for the upcoming season includes their participation at the Junior World Rally Championship series along with an experienced Czech co-driver Petr Těšínský. They will compete in Ford Fiesta Rally4, which is the vehicle specified for the junior category. They would like to follow up on a very successful season in this category back in 2016, in which Martin and his co-driver Lukáš Kostka won the title of junior vice-champions of the world. As a part of the preparation for WRC they will participate in the first event of the Slovak Rally Championship as soon as next weekend.
The last WRC event Martin took part in was Tour de Corse in 2017, where he competed in the WRC2 category. In the seasons that followed, Martin competed within the Slovak Rally Championship where he became the absolute Slovak champion twice, together with his co-driver Radovan Mozner. Season 2021 brings about a change in the co-driver seat, as well as a change of technique. The new co-driver in the hot seat next to Martin is an experienced Czech co-driver, Petr Těšínský, with whom Martin already took part in a preparatory event in Hungary named Mikuláš Rally, where they won within their class. The crew took part in this event using the new vehicle, which they will be driving this season. The new competition car will be Ford Fiesta Rally4 from the M-sport Polska automotive shop. For preparatory events, the Polish PZ service team will provide the vehicle.
In only a couple of days (from March 20 until March 21, 2021) the new crew shall commence the season at Slovakiaring. They will compete in the opening event of the Slovak Rally Championship – SR OMV MAXXMOTION RALLY SLOVAKIA RING 2021. It is a great opportunity to warm up before the start of the WRC season while simultaneously starting off the Slovak Rally Championship, where Martin competed throughout the last 4 seasons, while becoming the absolute Slovak rally champion in 2 of them.
“I am truly looking forward to the upcoming season. I would like to extend my gratitude to the team and our partners for giving me an opportunity to compete within the WRC once again. It is a huge motivation factor for me. The decision has been made at the end of last season and ever since then we have been continuously preparing within the limits of current circumstances. As a part of preparation, we will also take part in the event at Slovakiaring next weekend with the same car we will compete in throughout the WRC. I am very excited to be able to participate in a Slovak event and I believe it won’t be the last one this season”, said the pilot of the Styllex motorsport team Martin Koči.
The JWRC calendar consists of 5 events. 3 of them will be driven on asphalt, 2 of them on gravel. The first event will take place in Croatia (April 22 – April 25). This is the first time Croatia will appear in the WRC calendar. The next event should take place in Portugal (May 20 – May 23), where the Styllex motorsport crew already competed in the past.
The third event should take place on fast Estonian gravel (July 15 – July 18). The penultimate event is planned to take place in Belgium (August 13 – August 15) at the famous Ypres rally, which also made it to the WRC calendar for the first time. The concluding event will take place in Spain (October 14 – October 17) with a 1,5 point ratio. However, everything depends on the current pandemic situation.
